## Where to Start

If you are new to strategy, start with [calling trump](https://detroit.games/euchre/strategy/calling-trump). Most points in euchre are won or lost at the bidding stage, and good bidding habits make every other decision easier. Once bidding feels comfortable, [defense](https://detroit.games/euchre/strategy/defense) is the next-highest leverage skill: euchring the maker is worth two points and is often a coin flip that the disciplined side wins.

For the rules and scoring these guides assume, see the [main euchre rules page](https://detroit.games/euchre/rules). If a term in these guides is unfamiliar (bower, march, next, kitty), the [euchre glossary](https://detroit.games/euchre/glossary) has every term defined. To practice with a bot that explains its reasoning, try [Learning Mode](https://detroit.games/euchre/learning-mode) in the [lobby](https://detroit.games/lobby).
